Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered in high schools around the country to assist students in earning college credits.
At NEWLHS, we believe in leveraging many different programs to assist our upper level students. We offer AP Chemistry at this time and encourage our students to take CLEP tests in all of our upper level courses because of the rigor found in them.
AP courses, while valuable in some cases, don't always provide students with the necessary degree of satisfaction. The requirement of passing a cumulative test at the end of the course in order to receive a score of 3 or higher, places all of the importance of the course on that one exam. At Lutheran High, Mrs. Susan Wendt walks along side her AP Chemistry students to help them with the course materials to help them succeed but that is very difficult to do at larger institutions.
In evaluating the many options for partnering with colleges and universities we have found great value in offering our students actual college courses either online or on campus, to achieve the same end.
